40 Days Of Prayer - Day 08

Darkness

Scripture

Psalm 119:130
"The unfolding of your word gives light; it gives understanding to the simple."

Devotion

Crisp air, and crunchy leaves scattered carelessly on the ground. The sweet aroma of fall was thick in the air. It was October and our family was spending time at a log cabin in the woods. Close to 5 pm as the dim clouded sun ducked behind the horizon it became apparent that darkness was closing in. A darkness that envelopes.

At night, when the lights were out – it was so dark that you could not see your hand in front of your face. An absence of light so complete that your eyes felt closed even though you looked intently for any shadow. It was a convincing darkness.

Despite our best human efforts. We do not know the way, and sometimes darkness even prevents us from knowing where we are. We need God’s word to light the way. As we read His word, use it, try to understand it, and receive it into our hearts it shines light and provides understanding. We need to sit, simply, with God’s word and let it unfold it’s light into our lives, our paths, our directions, and our plans. We have the unique opportunity to pass this light (the truth) on to others so that they may also see the way (Isaiah 9:2).

Prayer

"Dear Heavenly Father, draw us closer to you as we read and follow your word. Please pray for our Kingdom Legacy initiative."
