40 Days Of Prayer - Day 09

A Few Things

Scripture

Matthew 25:21
“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.”

Devotion

If I’m being completely honest, when I was younger I used to think that anything I did for God needed to be some grand gesture. Preaching to thousands, leading grand revivals or building massive churches were just some of my grand dreams.

Yet the more time I spend following after God, the more I’ve learned that the call was never to do grand things. Graciously God has shown me that he isn’t interested in my grand gestures; He is interested in my faithful obedience in the little things. To do them well, consistently and with intention.

I love this parable of the talents referenced above. There is such a deep, beautiful message being presented. The master wasn’t concerned with how much each servant made him. Rather he was concerned that they were faithful with what he had given them and rejoiced with those that were faithful, did things well, consistently and with intention.

What few things has God entrusted you with? Instead of looking to the grand gestures, what you think will impress God, instead, look to the things He has already called you to. Who are your fav fives? When did you last connect with them? How are your personal spiritual disciplines going? When was the last time you slowed down to connect with God?

Instead of trying to preach to the masses, perhaps it is far more beneficial for you to invite your fav five over for dinner or lawn beers (COVID has totally made that a thing). Instead of trying to read the book of Psalms maybe commit to reading a verse a day and really meditating on it. Be faithful with the few things God has given you. Allow Him to determine how many ‘talents’ you should work within this season.

Prayer

"Lord thank you for entrusting me with a few things. Help me to be faithful to what you have called me to."
