40 Days Of Prayer - Day 21

The Guest Room

Scripture

1 Peter 3:15
“But in your hearts honour Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.”

Devotion

The guest room is an interesting spot, an invaluable space when needed yet not always fully prepared.  It can sit unused and untouched until you hear someone is on the way and then it becomes a place of avid attention. Open the window, buy fresh flowers, check the corners for cobwebs! Maybe some random things have found their way here and now it’s time to move your sewing machine, wrapping paper and photo albums.

Perhaps you are like a friend of mine who when I was a guest at her cottage, prepared a gift bag full of wonderful goodies to make me feel special. She had thought ahead and was beautifully ready for my arrival.

In our scripture today we are told to always be prepared to say what we believe and why. In the book ‘Becoming a Contagious Christian” the writers focus on equipping believers to effectively share their faith. One of the things that really stuck with me was their suggestion to pre-prepare a one-minute testimony (also referred to as an elevator testimony).

The idea was that you could share who you were before you met Christ, how you met Christ, and the difference He’s made in your life all in about one minute. let’s be ready by thinking ahead, keeping it simple and practicing it so often it is second nature to us.

2 Timothy 2:15 says,
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”

Timothy is being called to teach and preach the gospel message as a whole, and we are called to this too!

Prayer

"Heavenly Father, please help me to be ready to explain to anyone at moments notice why I love and follow You."
